Notes on Calibration

Today's quality-driven railroad respects the need for annual calibration of test equipment, and budgets accordingly. S&C Distribution Company, appreciates the requirement, but does not agree that it is an expense that must be absorbed every year. In our effort to better serve our customers we have done something about calibration.

First of all, our modern meter equipment is designed and built to be more stable than those devices configured around earlier technology. Secondly, because we know the environment in which our products are used, we protect our test equipment from some of the "screwdriver lightning" that causes meters to lose calibration. Thirdly, in the case of our Relay Slides we provide guidance that allows you to confirm calibration rather than require your relay tester be sent in for service on the chance that it is out of calibration.

Why should you absorb the cost of paying for the calibration service itself, the cost of shipping the Slide back and forth and the cost of maintaining swing units to insure that testing schedules are met? You do not have to absorb these costs if you follow our Calibration Check Procedures for our 330 and 332 Relay Slides. Contact us for further details.

330 Series DC Signal Relay Slides

"Railroad rugged" smallest comprehensive signal relay tester. Volt and ohmmeter provide simultaneous readouts. Include polarity reversing switch and LED "power-on" indicator. Four models: 1.15A or 2.0A max. output 3-turn and 10-turn pots. Come in padded case with leads (relay test and local battery). Optional equipment includes: battery packs, AC to DC power supply, in-vehicle chargers, adapter for use with plug-in relays out of the rack, long-reach probes for use with plug-in relays in the rack, searchlight signal testing adapters and shoulder harnesses.

Model 332 AC Signal Relay Slide

Primarily for use in testing PO relays. Low-voltage AC relay tests can be made with this tester from a switch-selectable straight AC output or an AC output routed through an internal bridge rectifier. The rectifier output enables testing of Safetran plug-in PO or PT relays out of the rack without having to rig an alternative rectifier. Tests of Safetran relays require our 330-18 Adapter (see below). Tests of GRS/Alstom plug-in PO relays require adapter PN: 332-18 (see below). Relay Slide comes with relay-connect leads AC power cord and zippered, padded case.

330-18

Makes out-of-the-rack testing of plug-in track and line relays faster and easier. With the 332 AC Relay Slide, permits the testing of out of the rack, of plug-in PO relays with silicon rectifiers. There is no need to rig up a rectifier.

332-18 Adapter for GRS POR's

Used to rest PO relays with selenium rectifiers out of the rack with the S&C Model 332 AC Relay Slide. This Adapter is required for proper test results. Due to the configuration of selenium rectifiers, the "Rectifier Output" of our 332 AC Relay Slide does not directly provide proper voltage to test these relays. When using this Adapter, it is necessary to have the output of the 221 Slide in the "AC" mode.

332-20 Test Equipment Power Adapter

To operate correctly, the Model 332 AC Relay Slide requires an AC voltage that provides a true sine wave, 50-60Hz. Most, if not all, vehicle-mounted inverters provide a square wave output, which will cause damage to our AC Slide that will require shop repair. Many older signal locations are not equipped with standard outlets, although the 120 or 240 VAC power is in the case. Our 332-20 Test Equipment Power Adapter allows the user, using good safety practice including opening the incoming 120/240 circuit before connecting the Adapter, to power any S&C Slide (AC or DC) or Megohmmeter from the existing commercial power.

Unit comes with three leads for connecting the Adapter to 110VAC or 220VAC commercial power; a lighted power-available indicator, a nylon cleat to corral the leads when they are not in use and a carrying handle for easy transport.

330-19 Long-Reach Test Probes

Long-Reach Probes and Leads offered by S&C Distribution Company, permit the user to slide GRS/Alstom and Safetran Plug-In Relays from the front, as long as both positive and negative terminals are accessible. Can be used with any meter that is equipped with standard banana jacks, five-way terminals, etc. Probes are 8.5 in. long and each is equipped with a 3.0A, fast-acting fuse. Leads are 8.0 ft. long with silicon insulation featuring an operating temperature range of -58 deg. F to +356 deg F.

330 Series Searchlight Signal Test Adapters

Our 330 Series DC Relay Slides have long been used to test Searchlight Signal Mechanisms for proper motion and proper pick and drop values. Our Testing Adapter Kits are comprised of three main components, as the photo indicates (Shown is the 330-25 Adapter Kit for H2 Signal Mechanisms). Those components are Slide Adapter, Signal Adapter and an Interconnect Cable. Can be used on plug-in or hardwired searchlight signals.

330 Series Right Angle Test Leads

Lead sets in popular configurations. Come with either alligator or battery clip connectors, right angle plugs. Wire is No. 18 Test Lead wire with silicone insulation for flexibility in low temperatures. For reliability and durability, insulation is mechanically restrained and the wire itself is soldered to the clip connection point. Leads are sold in sets of two (one red, one black).
